Quilt as you go --- I sandwiched each 64 block square and did the cross hatch quilting on my regular sewing machine. This quilt would have been too large for my machine -- also too big for my HandiQuilter frame. My method for putting the completed squares might be a little unorthodox but the finished product looks ok. I squared the quilted block and abutted two together and did a wide zig zag to hold them together. Then I added the narrow black sashing stitching by machine on each side which further stabilized the joined blocks. The wider black sashing on the back was sewn by hand so that the stitches wouldn't show on the front. I know (now) that there is a better way. But that is one of the things I love about quilting... you learn more with each quilt you make.
