I have never prewashed charm squares, jelly rolls or any of my quilting fabric. And I have never had any problems. I only wash quilts in cold-warm water, never hot. Once washer is done, I am there right away to transfer the quilts to the dryer. I don't allow the quilt to sit while wet...that is when bleeding will happen.
