I will look at the fabric and if it will be a good backing fabric, then about 4 yards. If it is good for a background, then 2 yards. Only a few times have I purchased the entire bolt, and that was when it was on a super sale and would be the backing for a king-size quilt or multiple smaller quilt backs.
