My dog never got on the bed or furniture until...it was stormy one night and I was so tired of his restlessness so I let him get on the bed. Now that was a mistake. Now when I make the bed of a morning I put pillows so he can't get on the bed and at night I put a flat sheet on top of the covers and he lays on that. He is a short legged, overweight Corgi. Wouldn't trade him but a Corgi is really not a good house dog. He puts all others to shame when it comes to shedding.
