My 2013 vintage Singer resets to a straight stitch whenever it's turned off. I not only turn off but unplug it when I leave the room because we have lots of lightning storms. My only beef is that the touchpad is low on the front and I sometimes bump it by accident while wrestling a quilt around. It would be very bad to change to a zigzag when I have a straight stitch foot on the machine, and it's bad enough when all it does is cause me to zig a bunch of wrong stitches in my work. It beeps with every change, but sometimes my mind or ears are out to lunch.
