I came up with 1-3/4 yards, but I'm not caffeinated yet, so ...

You can cut 16 2-1/2" squares per WOF strip (based on the WOF being 42")
You need 400 white squares to make 100 blocks
400 divided by 16 = 25 strips needed
25 2-1/2" strips = 62.5 inches of fabric
62.5 divided by 36 inches per yard = 1.74 yards

I'd get 2 yards just to be on the safe side.

Somebody double check that. I'm not awake yet!
