we tell our beginner classes to measure the quilt top/middle bottom and take the average (usually the middle is smaller and maybe an end longer but hopefully less than 1 inch--more than that you need to figure out why) and cut your borders to fit that average--pin both end and the middle and quarter pins and adjust as you sew. repeat for other sides of border. Remember that if border (or quilt) is little longer, but it as the bottom next to presser feet when you sew as it will pull up that excess if not great. (baggy on the bottom)
