I used a new bar of soap with the paper still wrapped around it as a pin cushion when piecing blocks today and it helps lubricate the pins. (Don't have to worry about stabbing myself in the head either). I've been following Cutebuns Tip Toe through the Hexagon Cutie style and making my FIRST quilt. Using a bamboo skewer for a stiletto works and is cheap. Cutting through six layers of material is hard!
