    I wouldn't mess with it. Leave it like it is and just use risers for your bed. The other suggestions are excellent too. It's too pretty to muss it up.

    Just do some heavy quilting on the quilt and that alone will make it shrink!

    I think it is just fine the way it is. Most queens are to short. I like might to hang a little.

    I wouldn't take the top and bottom borders off. Is the quilt long enough that you could use the extra to lap over your pillows?

    I always make my bed quilts long enough to cover the pillows.
    If the quilt is going to be quilted on a longarm, there will be some loss to the size of the quilt.
