    Height and width are equally important. In many of the new machines the height area is not a rectangle because the left side of the machine dips down triangular-style into the "height" to accommodate the needle/tension/threading, etc.

    My Elna Excellence has an 11" throat and quilts like a dream. I love it!

    I couldn't give up my Bernina, but I just bought a Viking Ruby because of the 11 inch throat. I think I will really like it. I need to see where I am more these days.
