    Why not quilts!?!?
Years ago, this happened with my aunt, she sewed everything, underwear, suits and the most beautiful quilts, when she passed her quilts were displayed at the church. It was amazing.

Great ideas. I personally love the idea of quilts and flowers both since I love flowers too.

I read an article recently in Fons and Porter magazine and they use to make the most amazing casket quilts. I think its a beautiful idea and wouldn't be nice to see this again. It would have so much more meaning than flowers that go to waste.

Many of my quilter friends have already made their casket quilt. They are wonderful and such a good idea.

I actually thought about a display of quilts that my mom had made and putting one on the casket will do just nicely. I will have to talk to the rest of my siblings to see what they think.

A friend Mother passed away last week. A quilt was used as casket cover. It was the first time I had seen this done. I thought it was much more personal. It was done in her favorite colors.

I saw a very intricate one at a quilt show in Harrisburg several years ago. At this point I'm sure it would be nice to have one of my quits draped on my casket, but making a particular one just for that purpose would give me the creeps !

I really like this idea!! I don't have any problem talking about death, and something like this is thoughtful for the ones who remain behind.

I live in Turkey, and most people (Muslim Turks) are buried only in a white cloth. My quilting friend, though, has said she plans to make a patchwork wrapping cloth. :-))

My MIL died a week ago and the memory quilt I made for her two months earlier was used over the casket at the funeral home
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-159786-1.htm My husband and his three brothers thought it told the story of her life, and I was honored they used it. My husband brought it home when he returned from CT two days ago. It will be a wonderful reminder of her, every time he looks at it hanging on our wall.

When my mom was dying of breast cancer I did a small (8x10) quilt with a generational picture of her and the next 3 generations; also stitched were Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, along with a message of what she meant to me and the next 3 generations. This was laid in her coffin and buried with her. She too did not want any elaborate wake or funeral since my father (her beloved husband of 62 years)had passed away 3 years earlier. My mom died with a smile on her face - I like to think she was seeing my father and excited to show him the little quilt since they both encouraged me and my sister to quilt.
