Central Florida = north of Orlanda has a breeze year around = that is one reason this area is popular.
We can sit outside all year with no bugs except Love Bug season. We golf at noon twice a week all summer - yes it gets hot in the south - not any hotter than anywhere else - it just lasts longer:-) We had no intentions of living in FL for retirement. Find an area that suits your lifestyle and you will love it.

Thanks so much! Groveland is on on to look at list!

Scraps, that's a sad joke to pass around for sure, makes the villages look like a swingers club...glad to hear it's not true.

We are headed down tomorrow & will start looking, we have to be out of this house by March 20 and we have NO IDEA what we're doing. Hopefully we will find a short term rental while we look or build. Goodness, I am too old for this! LOL!!!

It looks like we will be building in Mt Dora in the Sullivan Ranch neighborhood. We are very excited!

Congratulations! Far enough away from the hubbub of Orlando. It has been said that the farther north you go in the southern state of Florida, the closer you are to the South!

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not because I can't get page 2 to work but you might think about looking at "unincorporated" areas. They and residential areas with HOAs have many restrictions. The towns will add on fees for your utilities and services. HOAs are pretty much sticklers as to what and where you can park vehicles, boats and RVs. If you move to FL, I can't imagine not living near the Atlantic or the Gulf...I'm on the Gulf and we were cooler last summer than most of the states north of FL.
Think North Pinellas County......Rainbow's End, the largest quilt shoppe in FL is 5 miles down the road from me. What more could you want? I'm told the rents are reasonable here too. Oh, and we're 1 hour from the State Fair Grounds and 2 hours from Orlando. Come on down.

Update, we have a rental in Oviedo while we build in Mt Dora. We found a beautiful neighborhood called Sullivan Ranch in Mt Dora. Bummer is we will have to move twice in a year but it will be worth it. And now, back to packing..we move next week!!!

Hi there we lived in Apopka Fl while we were stationed in Fl. It is a (or was) a quite little town. It is growing fast.

We lived in Lake Mary several years ago & I thought it was nice. Granted, I wasn't real taken with FL in general (the humidity & bugs were a real eye-opener) but Lake Mary was nice -- lots of friendly people & the schools were good. Plus, there was a great quilt sho[ in Sanford (like I said, this was a while ago). Oh, and good restaurants!
