Default What does the word "Indie" mean?

Lately I have seen all over the internet the word Indie, such as "Indie crafts." I can't tell from the descriptions what the word means. Can you enlighten me? Thanks

Here in Canada, we use indie to refer to music that is made independently from a record label, thus it is "indie" music. CBC plays a lot of indie music and most is pretty modern sounding, not necessarily hard rock or punk. I imagine indie crafts would be the same sort of thing, crafts made by independent producers and sold by the individual rather than by bulk and sold through a store. Hey - kinda like quilts!

    Independent. Not a corporation.

I get tired of acronyms and abbreviations...

The dumbing down of our culture at its worst.

Acronyms...why are they so popular these days? Every time I go to a teacher's meeting there is another new one...and I can never remember what they stand for!

If it weren't for acronyms, most wouldn't know what something is. Intials are the same way, ask what they mean and I bet most wouldn't know.
