I see this term, OBW, used a lot and wondered what exactly is a "One Block Wonder"?

OBW is one material that is cut up and it gives a kaleidoscope look to it. You use a large print and once it is cut up and re positioned the material has a diferent look. I'm sure if you look it up you will see what I mean.

So basically OBW and Kalediscope is the same thing. Am I understanding this?

OBW is a term coined by Maxine Rosenthal, who wrote several books about them. OBW quilts rely primarily on a single fabric for the whole quilt. Stack and Whack (Bethany Reynolds books) use similar techniques to stack and cut the fabrics, but they typically use different fabrics to frame individual blocks. Kaleidoscope is a general term that refers to many different quilt blocks and techniques, including OBW and S&W. Not all kaleidoscope blocks require stacking fabrics.

There was a very good explanation of these techniques on the Quilting Board daily Digest recently.
I can't find it under resources tho. I'm not even sure how to describe the post.
It comes every few days from Admin giving the most posted topics and then some good basic information.

When you use a larger print [though this isn't totally always necessary, depending on the print] with a variety of color then when you cut out the pieces or make the stack & whack part of the OBW then the colors and print variations make it a 'wonder!'

You can look at the photos on the QB and online and get the idea.
