Mangoes?
Believe it or not...encountering mangoes for the first time!!!!! First one I opened before ripe- yuck. But this time it was nice and ripe, but what a mess to try to cut up.......I even checked the Internet for info...easier said than done. Although it is a delightful taste, I don't think I'll buy again......but now I know the taste of one. I'll stick to fruit I can handle.

They can be difficutl to cut up. What I learned in Hawaii when staying at a friend's house that had a mango tree, is to cut the fruit in half. Then cross hatch the fruit without going throught the skin. Then you can scoop the fruit out more easily.

We cut it off as close to the pit as possible and either eat it with the peel or eat the meat off of the peel. The pit is still left with tons of the best juicy meat so that goes to one of the little kids to scrape off with their teeth but indeed it is a mess. Oh and I need dental floss afterwards.
I'll tackle a mango any day over bothering with a pomegranate. We have pomegranate trees and they are so healthy and expensive in the store but I can just not handle that red mess. The kids have a hay day with them but I make them sit outside.

Annaquilts.....Have you tried to make jelly from the pomegranates? I have not done it(Texas panhandle doesn't grow many of those!), but a friend of mine did with great results. Hers came from her DD in Southern Utah. I imagine it to be a little bit of a mess, but love the taste!

Cut your pomegranate into fourths and then pull it apart in a large bowl of water, under water. The seed part falls to the bottom and all the white junk floats. Dry the seeds on paper towels and keep in a plastic bag in the fridge. pomeganate jelly is wonderful.

Great idea about pomegranates...like those, but as getting older wonder how my gut will like those seeds......
watched some youtubes on cutting mangoes...then on to melons, papaya(haven't tried those yet),squash and finally how to sharpen your knives.......a learning experience.
