Hello friends...I'm using machine applique to put a name on a quilt...can I use newsprint underneath?

Not sure what you are asking. Do you want to use newsprint in place of a tear away stabilizer?

Newsprint rubs off on fabric. I would not use it. There are many alternatives.

I've often used white tissue paper like you use for wrapping presents behind my machine appliqué using a satin stitch. It tears right off. Sometimes I put a tiny dab of glue stick to keep a piece from shifting. Try a sample before committing to your big project.

Some like to use the white coffee filter rounds as stabilizer. If the newsprint is the beige paper without any printing on it, it should be okay.

I usually use A4 copy paper. If using satin stitches the larger pieces will almost pop out, and the rest will soften with soaking. Then I have used a firm brush to scrape off the sodden paper with no harm done to thread.

I use the plain newsprint all the time and it works just fine. It tears off very easy, too.
