    Default Hot fix crystal application?

I tried the search function, but I am not finding a lot of info. I would like to add some crystals to a Christmas tree wallhanging that I am working on. I would rather not invest in more tools that will probably not get used very often....is there a reliable way to attach the Swarovski flat back crystals with an iron? They already have glue on the back of them-just needs heated to activate it. Thank you!

I've used a clover mini iron to attach them-works fine.

For a wall hanging, you could just use a tiny dot of glue. Ailene's Tacky glue is one I have used. It dries clear but I am sure there are others as well. If you have tweezers, it makes placing those tiny things much easier!

I used E 6000 on flat backed crystals for a Christmas tree skirt. I never could get the hot fix ones to work properly.

I use the tool made-to attach them, sometimes using the tool for the job gives the best results. The nice thing about it is you can pick up the crystals with the hot tool & place them exactly where you want them, hold for a couple seconds and they are securely attached, no need for tweezers, multiple handling, chancing them moving or not adhering. The tool gets them the correct temperature to melt the adhesive and place them accurately.

I have set crystals with my iron set in dry using a Teflon appliqué sheet. Place your crystals and carefully cover with Teflon or parchment paper then heat set. Worked great. Beats setting them individually with the tool which I have also. Good luck

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I will try a small dry iron with a Teflon appliqué sheet....I will probably never add these to a quilt again, so I hope to have success without purchasing another gadget!

I would also suggest using a covered board under the item. If there is too much cushioning there is too much give and it won't adhere as well. There is a site called Sue's Sparklers; she sells oodles of these type things and does suggest putting the item on a stiff backing so they adhere better and cover with a press cloth. She also might have a demo on her site or the instructions on how to.

I attach them using Ok to Wash It glue. They stay for the occasional wash. I usually wash these by hand or in the gentle cycle.
