    Default Hello from Wisconsin!

Hi everyone! New here-I found out about this forum via Pinterest. I had researched a snowman quilt to make for my mom this Christmas and found people talking about the pattern on this forum, so I thought I'd join.

I'm 35 with a husband, preschooler, and a house full of pets. I've knitted and done no-sew projects, but I've never made a quilt before. Looking forward to doing it this holiday season and over the long winter here.

Can't wait to learn more! I don't have a sewing machine yet, so I guess that should be an investment I make early on, huh?

Welcome from Tennessee and a former Wisconsinite. A sewing machine would be handy but you could piece by hand if you preferred

Hi and Welcome from North Carolina! You've come to the right place for all kinds of quilting answers to questions.

Yes, a sewing machine will be most helpful. To start, I have found that one does not need a fancy (expensive) electronic machine. I had one of those fancy ones, and went back to a very inexpensive mechanical heavy duty Singer from Walmart. It does everything I need for it to do. Until you become familiar with quilting, I would suggest that you start this way. Later, if you find that you need an electronic one, you can use the mechanical as a backup or a travel machine. IMHO.

Enjoy your quilting!! It's a great hobby!!

Welcome to the board! You can find a sewing machine in any price range. You could do it all by hand but it's a lot easier if you have a machine.

Hello and welcome! Perhaps even a vintage machine might interest you. You can learn to service them yourself, and they sew a great straight stitch. All-metal, or close to it.
