Before you decide, be aware that not all DWR patterns make round circles. Some of them make circles that look more like squares with rounded corners, just in case that matters to you. I believe the Shar Jorgensen templates make truly round circles.

I didn't use templates, but hired Katie Flynn (John Flynn's daughter) to laser cut the pieces. She worked with me to figure out how much fabric was needed for each section. It made it do-able. I bought a Curvemaster foot. Pricey, but oh my! It really made the process easier. Good luck and enjoy!

I'm making one now for me...have had the fabric for a couple of years...it does take a lot of fabric for a king size..i have used 2 jelly rolls so far, plus the yardage for the centers of the blocks and the footballs (I call them this)...I needed 197 footballs for a 9 X 10 king size quilt..I have 180 done so far..will start putting the blocks together before I finish up the number of footballs..I don't want to have any left overs...I make 10 footballs a day...the fabric I'm using is a discontinued 1895 hand painted batik called brown sugar...love it..I don't think I will make another DWR...I made the first one for my oldest daughter in purples and green...I am leaving the scalloped edges also..
Good luck with yours, I have and use the Sharlene Jorgensen's templates and pattern book..

I made a DWR quilt a year ago using 30's fabrics and used the paper pieced instructions and templates from Bluprint (Craftsy) called "The Classic Double Wedding Ring with Gail Kessler". The paper piecing method made everything go together very accurately. Glad I used this method. Here is a picture of it.

I believe there is also a method using Quiltsmart product. I think it is similar to paper piecing but using a foundation. It has been years since I have seen this done so not sure if it is still available but a friend said it was very easy.
