I've heard of a three yard quilt, and courthouse steps, but never a Three Step Quilt. Please explain?

Is this the quilt you’re talking about?

I have the pattern but have not made it yet.

Linda, that is the name of the pattern. Not how many steps it takes to make the quilt. But thank you.

Yes, tallchick, this is the pattern. Sure was hoping for some color ideas. Would love to see yours when it is completed.

Bobbie I would think any color would look great, even scraps, if all the sashing strips are all the same color to tie it in together. I am anxious to see what you surprise us with!
The pattern says for a 63 x 83 it takes 48 (10 inch) squares, plus 3 1/4 yards of black or whatever color you use, for your stripping. So you could use a layer cake, plus 6 more 10 inch sqs, from the fabric you use for your backing and it will tie it all in. Be sure to add 5/8 yd more to your 3 1/4 yardage if you do, so 4 1/8 yards. You will also need binding fabric, unless your pattern says it is included, in the black stripping they used. The pattern directions may tell you if it was included in the yardage.

I just saw this quilt pegboard on here made, although it's not your pattern, but showing you for color because of narrow stripping. She has used all sorts of black and white fabrics and stripped with red. Free your mind to color and make it uniquely yours.
