Default Kona solids -- heavy fabric!

I am making a baby quilt in colors requested by the recipient. The fabrics are Kona solids that I ordered online from a very reputable shop. I prewashed all the yardage but still find the fabric is almost like canvas in its handle. How likely is it that with multiple washings -- as baby quilts do get -- this will soften in time? I'm thinking of perhaps putting flannel on the back just so the quilt has SOME part of it that's soft!

I'm surprised no one has spoken up on this topic by now. Personally, I have never found Kona solids to be stiff or heavy. But I have heard complaints from others from time to time, and I wonder whether they received something other than Kona cotton. I would try washing the fabric again and see what happens.

I've never had Kona from Robert Koffmann to feel heavier than other cotton lines. Some collections of fabric lines seem denser than Kona sometimes.

I also wondered why no one else answered this question. Kona has been used in so many of my quilts that hearing a cut of it was more like canvas surprises me totally. Never known this to be true. Contact the store you purchased it from, your order will be in their purchase history and voice a complaint about it, send them back a sample of it if you have to. It is possible that they made a mistake, or had a new employee who thought they got it right. A reputable store will offer you some sort of deal, or resend your order for free. Let us know what happens!

I've had some colors seem denser than others (probably something to do with the dye), but never like canvas. Do let us know what the store says!

Kona does seem heavier to me than the solids I'm used to using. It is certainly heavier than Art Gallery Pure solids and Michael Miller cotton couture.
