I agree with b. zang's suggestion of Walking on Sunshine for feel-good music!
Proud Mary by Ike & Tina Turner is a really good, upbeat song. The Creedence Clearwater Revival version doesn't quite do it for me. OTOH, CCR's I Heard It Through the Grapevine has some marvelous head music in it.
Several people have mentioned Bob Seger. I especially recommend his early stuff, such as Heavy Music, for foot-stomping energizing music.
I used to love to listen to Ricki Lee Jones when I was angry. Loved her attitude, and the music ends up making you feel good. Danny's All-Star Joint off her first album is a favorite.
Charlie Daniels Band's Devil Went Down to Georgia and a ton of their other songs. Molly Hatchet does a fantabulous rendition of Mississippi Queen on one of their Volunteer Jam albums. Speaking of Molly Hatchet, you can't do better than Flirtin' with Disaster for energizing.
Which reminds me of the Grateful Dead's Touch of Grey ("I will survive" ) and their other stuff.
Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven starts gently, oh so gently, and revs you up gradually. And then there's Kashmir and so many of their other songs.
It doesn't get much more magical than Van Morrison's Moondance. Wild Night is good, too, and it's even better done by John Mellencamp.
Early U2, such as I Will Follow and Gloria.
From the Godspell soundtrack, It's All for the Best (a very fun song for getting past the blues) and By My Side.
Jesse Colin Young's songs are soft and loving.
Jim Croce, too, though his themes are different.
Sly & the Family Stone, especially I Want to Take You Higher and Everybody Is a Star
For just music when you want your head to go somewhere else, try Kitaro's Ki album. His Silk Road double album was probably his most popular one.
The Allman Brothers Mountain Jam is awesome listening.
For angry music, protest songs such as War and Ohio.
Oh, and for '80s music, how can you not cheer up to Rock the Casbah!
Also Kayleigh, by Marillion.
Holiday, by Madonna.

Prayer said for your recovery
Definitely second the suggestion "I Will Survive"
Bridge Over Troubled Water
These Boots are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra
I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar - I think by Petula Clark
almost anything by Neal Diamond - love the background music
100 Ways to Leave your Lover - substitute 100 ways to beat your cancer

Don't forget Annie Lennox....awesome voice, good for singing along ...Alison Moyet is great too, bit melancholy, but sometimes it actually makes you feel better when you listen to it. Lots of love, light and peace from the Land of Aus.x

Whoever wrote about "The Rising" YEAH- that DVD that I posted Live in Barcelona was the Rising Tour- amazing!!!
Love all these posts- I just thought of another one- Me & Julio Down by the School Yard, and Kodachrome- Paul Simon. Love that man!! Also someone mentioned audiobooks and podcasts. Itunes has free podcasts of some great books- they belong to the public domain so some of the readers aren't like regular audiobooks but still good. I have 2 ipods- one for music and one for audiobooks :D:D

Enya for the sound
The suggestions for categories is great.
Amazing Grace
Depending on your religious views, favorite hymns or spiritual music - even the Lutherans have a few hymns that almost rock! (I was raised Lutheran - - - )

BOSTON - Don't Look Back
If you have satellite, sirius radio has a 70s and 80s channel that may give you alot of great ideas. Perhaps you could google the top 40 charts for those years. I'll pray for you!!!
