I recently had the same company continue to call so the last time they called I told them I was dead. They have not called again.

Marsye you need to start a thread with some stories of what you've told these people. I bet it would be hysterical!

I don't get many solicitor calls during dinner, but if I did, I would ask if they could hold on and then go eat my dinner. They'll get the message and hang up eventually.
When I was a kid (I won't say how many years ago), I was a prankster.
I also agree with you about Marsye starting a story thread.
Well one time on Halloween.....ah nevermind!

They always give up after a few minutes..
I have done this myself. I don't have many calls anymore.

Most of these calls aren't scams, but if you interrogate them about whether or not the caller is a police officer, they rarely are. They are hired to collect the $$, and if they can afford to hire help, they can donate the $ to their cause and do the calling themselves. Wouldn't give them a penny.

We have Windstream and they have a "No Call" number you can call. We do have to repeat this every couple of years.

My mother's line is "I never donate money over the phone." And then she hangs up.

One time I got a phone and they asked for Mr. .... . I told them he lived with his new wife. The apologized and hung up.

I laughed to myself thinking "How dare they think there is a Mr. and How dare they think that I am incapable of making a decision without him. They were lucky they apologized and ended the call -- I was just warming up.

In Colorado, none of the departments you listed raise money by phone. We are reminded frequently of these scams on our local news. I would be very leery about giving them any money. You might consider contacting your state's Attorney General's office to find out if it is legal and if it is not, I would threaten to turn them in next time they contact you. If it is legal, I would politely ask them to put your number on their No Call list.

Oh, I forgot. Due to my former SIL being a $%&! head, I changed my phone number. This was after having the same phone number for over 30 years. Sweet Silence now!!!

Answer the phone, say "can you hang on a minute?" and then just lay it down inside a drawer and go back to dinner.
