How do you think it would look if I quilted a different pattern on each block on a quilt as you go quilt? This would be for my son's Mickey Mouse quilt, so nothing fancy-schmancy.

Or perhaps alternating between 2-3 patterns?

The quilt is an attic window pattern with 3 blocks across and 6 blocks down, if that matters.

Hi,

Your idea of quilting a different pattern on each block is a great way to practice your quilting skills. Since it is for a child who will love it no matter how it is quilted it is the perfect opportunity. In a quilt with differnt blocks one quilting pattern would not fit all. I have been the recipient of several quilt tops that were made from totally different blocks. I quilted each block as it's pattern required.

Enjoy

i am in the process of making my daughter a quilt in the stained glass effect with five different designs. Each one of the five are quilted differently, which I think, gives it more interest. I would say go ahead and you may be surprised at the end result.

Go for it. I've done samplers and many of us have and they look great. If the blocks are different sizes all the more interesting. Just use a great fabric to unite them. Can't wait to see it.

Thanks everyone! I've decided on 3 different patterns. Shooting star, something that looks kinda like a wave, I guess, and a diamond grid. I'm working on basting and quilting now. I gave up on the notion that I'd get it done by next friday. I've only just begun quilting the first block and I still have to figure out how to piece them back together. Then there's the backing and the trim and.... yeah, it'll be a while.
