I am a beginner. Please explain what you mean.

I always thought that the number of dots meant how many colors were used in the print - not the basic quality of the original fabric.
Me too. The dots are for each color used in the printing process. I don't think it has anything to do with quality.
If the colors are nicely centered in the circles in the selvage, that probably means that the printing will be good.

I do all kinds of sewing from packs to clothes, to quilts. I've gotten fleece and cordura for $1.00 a yard, I usually buy the whole bolt at that price! I'm a scrounger, I guess! I just Looooove Fabric! :)

I have gotten some very nice fabrics there - some not the quality like LQS - but for some items they have a great variety.

When Wal Mart had fabric in Sherman, Texas, I loved the AE Nathan and the Cranston VIP and sometimes found other fabric with a good "hand." Not everything you buy at a quilt shop is good quality. You have to be careful and learn to judge fabric by its "hand" instead of its origin or price. I don't think Wal Mart ever carried, but another good fabric is made by Blank manufacturing. It is generally much less expensive and is usually very nice. You can look on the Internet to find retail stores that carry it. froggyintexas

We know that you also buy the LQS fabrics.
Yep, I buy from all over, whatever looks and feels right. :D
Me too. I have bought some called LuLu Lounge. There are 5 different colors prints that go in this collection. They are really nice thick fabric. A good cotton but they do have some real losers.

Hey, it's great for decorative stuff, or things that you don't need to last forever. I have gotten just what I needed many times, for a great price. For instance, a preprinted Christmas tree skirt to quilt. Only used once a year, but good quality of fabric name brand......

A fabric store owner told us that the colored dots were to show you what color fabrics would co-ordinate with the colors in the printed fabric.
As long as you use those colors they will all match and if you look closely it appears to be true.
