I agree. If you don't add a small border of fabric not in the body of the quilt, it will look like the fabric from the quilt is "leaking" into the border. I often use a black fabric that has the colors in the quilt - it makes bright colors pop.

Of the two choises, I like B. However if the squares are the same size on all sides, you could turn some of them horizonatly and mix up the pattern. Just a thought.

Could you re-arrange the blocks to where you could use Choice "B"? My initial reaction was B, but then one block in on the outside and would blend into the border......go back and look at the picture again. You have several dark blue going diagonal and then the lone dark blue is in one corner.

I like A -- or doing a narrow border of one of the "solids" and then A. the B is what I would call the focus fabric because it has identifiable things in it and not using it as the border would make it "snap" in the quilt". it could be used as the backing and/or binding.

I would do a thin white border, then the blue from Plan A. That gives the outer border and the blocks some space.
