This quilt is huge. It is almost 60" from nose to tail and 50" from side o side. My grandson, Daniel, 2.5 yrs, and my grandson, Benjamin, 4 yrs, can crawl under it with plenty of space.

The little guy I made this for isn't my grandson, he belongs to Fiber Artist's daughter. I was just trying the pattern so I could decide if I wanted to make these for my grandchildren for Christmas.

that little one will enjoy the turtle for years. But, I have a question, how do you keep those types of seams from raveling??

Dee: The seams are stitched twice. The first time you have just the fabric, batting, and backing fabric. These are also quilted when they are just pieces. Then, you stitch the seams again when putting the quilt together. I have used a double needle when making something small, but for this quilt I stitched the seams 1/8" apart.

When you clip the 1"-1.25" seam allowance, you only clip down about3/4 of an inch. I like to do the clipping before putting the pieces together. It doesn't get fuzzy until you put it in the washer and dryer. Hope this answers your question. This style of quilting is a little different than traditional.

If anyone is interested, I found a pattern to make a cathedral window rag quilt. It is really easy and all done on the machine. Not as pretty or detailed as the traditional, but just as fun.

If I can find a picture of a frog, that can be made into pieces, it would be really cute. Hadn't thought of that. Ahhh, a new challenge. :wink: :lol: :?

Can I ask where you got the pattern ? My 8 year old GD is all about turtles right now, has even gone and "worked" at the sea turtle rescue on South Padre. She believes she wants to be a marine biologist. That would be a wonderful "rug" for her room.

this is so cute!! Did you use a pattern? This looks like one my daughters would enjoy making. Maybe everyone was thinking he wouldn't need a blanket right away being born in summer, but I know we used lots of blankets with my girls (AC can be chilly, and they always used them as playmats!) My girls still love their baby blankets and they are 9 and 13! :thumbup:

that's the cutest quilt I've ever seen. What a lucky little boy he is. Did you design it yourself? If you did, you need to put a patent on the design.
