I like Quick Quilts, but I buy them off the rack when there is something I am interested in them. I put a sticky note on the page of the quilts I like and even write a name if I have someone in mind. I am also a scrapbooker and subscribed to numerous magazines. Now I have a shelf of magazines that I rarely even look at. Didn't want to do that again.

I don't have any subscriptions. I have to confess of what I have been doing for a few years now. When I am at the line at the supermarket I pick up a magazine and look at it. If I find a pattern I like I write down the name and usually find it some place else. I then don't buy it. Very often a quilt is made with a traditional block but what makes it especial is the use of fabric, usually of certain fabric line. I do understand that the magazine wants to make money as well as the fabric designers and I don't blame them for that, but I sometimes feel abused as a consumer. Magazines are expensive for what you get, when the reality is that they don't make money out of subscriptions, but from the sale of adds.

I believe that magazines should be ran like TV. The channels that you get for free are full of commercials, because they are the ones paying the big buck. When the consumer pay to watch TV, like premium channels, the programs are commercial free. My point is, if they want me to read the adds and buy the products being pushed on me, give me the magazine for free. If you want me to pay for a subscription, give me an add free magazine.

My mag collection got totally out of control. So now when I go to the store I look through all the mags and if there aren't at least 4 patterns in there I want to do I won't buy it.

Better Homes and Gardens has a quilt magazine "Quilt Sampler" that is published twice a year, Spring and Fall, and it highlights 10 quilt shops around the country with a pattern from each one. That is the main magazine I purchase each year. Think you might enjoy this one as the patterns vary from shop to shop.

I am looking for a magazine (Trip Around the World) I did have it but seem to have lost it (probably left it at a friends house) does anyone know were I can find it? I started to make the quilt and need the pattern to finish it.

Trip Around the World is a classic....if you tell me where you are in the process of making yours, I can probably recreate what you need. I love this pattern-----have a batiks wall quilt in the planning stages----and have made several thru the years. Just PM me with the details.....

I got Fons and Porter for one year, and now I am getting three others for one year at the ridiculous low price for people subscribing for the first time. I won't renew them because they are so expensive the second time around. I figure these patterns and ideas will last me the rest of my life and whatever else I need I can get online. The magazines I have now I wouldn't part with, but I think I could get a lot of fabric with the money I did save. Edie

I used to buy 5 or 6 each month. Now, I rarely buy one because I already have more quilt ideas than I would ever be able to finish in the rest of my life time and wayyyyy beyond! Of course, I rarely throw them out but may give some away occasionally.

I think the idea of borrowing them from my local library is a great idea for a lot of reasons.

I have enough books and magazines to start my own store. Since I've retired, I don't subsribe any more, would rather buy material. I have about 75 magazines that I have highlighted patterns that I would like to do, that should keep me busy til iam 90.

I love using my city library to check out quilting magazines -- I'm a huge fan of libraries in general, though! I also like to borrow issues from my mom; she bought tons of magazines when she first began quilting about 10 years ago, and unlike "news events," quilt patterns never really become outdated! It's very relaxing for me to thumb through them all... :-)
