Is there a story with your avatar?

You put tears in one eye. What a sad but wonderful story.

It's a rather emotional project for our family. It had just been completed but I hadn't mailed it to my daughter yet (she lived 1000 miles away) when my daughter and her DH lost almost everything they owned in an apartment fire that burned out 12 families. DD was 32 weeks pregnant and they were homeless. We drove out and I wrapped her in the quilt, literally wrapping her with family love and the promise things would get better. There were lots of tears. Two weeks later she went into labor and my grandaughter arrived, six weeks early, weighing just under 5 lbs., but healthy. When she got out of NICU, the quilt was an anchor as they lived in a camper in someone's yard for several months while they searched for a new home.
I told DD it was to be loved and used, not set aside as an heirloom. Today Lily is 3 1/2 and she uses the quilt all the time. It is fading, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They now live just a few miles from us (and she has a little brother). It's great to have them close. Lily's great-grandmother passed away this spring and this was one of her final quilting projects. To me, this what quilting is all about, and if it connects generations, it's a special blessing.

I'm wondering where your city is? I lived outside of Cleveland for 30 some years of my life. And never heard of your city.I now live here in Mo. Please tell me what big city are you near?

Mine is a reminder of all the hours taking a bus to work (and back). Sewing time was down to a yo-yo every 5-7 min., depending if I was talking or not! Ohhh, is it nice to be retired and actually put them together for this wall hanging.

My avater is the Startooth Star Wallhanging. I decided to make it in red, white and blue for a wall hanging for 4th of July. But it won't get hung up until next year. I have to quilt it. I'm behind on my quilting.I have more tops made then I can quilt.

Oh yes. We live on a wooded lot and one summer a family of owls lived in our back yard. Imagine my wonderment when one of the owls decided to use our birdbath!! In the middle of the afternoon no less. I was lucky enough to catch him on film.
