I just used some Baking soda in te wash and rinse to get rid of a musty/mousy odor in some fabric and it worked well. I was really happy with the results.

I am going to wash them again tomorrow. I will let everyone know how it comes out.

At Sam's club you can buy Odo Ban. Put that in the washing machine when you wash your fabric and it will take the odors away. It really works!!

These are gorgeous and worth all the washing they need.. Add some diluted baking soda into the wash or diluted oxyclean.

Wait!!! Don't mix vinegar and baking soda together or you'll end up with a science experiment in your washing machine...remember making volcanos for science fairs in elementary school??? But...this is a great way to clean your drains...
I wonder if it would work in the toilet to get it clean?
Yes, it works wonderfully as a toilet cleaner....put on the baking soda quite thickly, spray on some cheap white vinegar, leave for 20mins or overnight if possible and scrub....voila! sparkling loo (toilet). You can do the same with sink drains, 'cept pour over the vinegar rather than spray. Freshens everything up beautifully.

P.S. Don't toss the polyesters....just make a scrappy for the car or pets or picnic quilt. If you really don't want to go that way and they are retro, they are collector's dreams, specially for young designers....see if anyone is looking for fabric on trading posts, etc.

I've been through something similar. Our son washes his clothes and forgets to dry them. 2 days later when I need to do wash there is a musty odor when wash mach door opened. I set up for short wash then throw in some baking soda, usually 1/2-3/4 cup, and without soap and let it go through complete cycle. Unless clothes are stuffed to tightly (he's a boy --sort to make smaller loads NAH) 1 go round will do the trick . You can still use fabric softener in final rince-it's ok.

Good luck.

Try putting your fabric in the freezer for 2 (two) days fist- let thaw the rewash!
