I've had surgery on both wrists and certainly don't regret it. It is a very simple procedure and only lasts a short time. It's well worth it. I do know the suffering that can come with the situation. Hope you decide soon and good luck.

I beg to differ with you...
carpal tunnel is caused by the nerve being pinched/restricted by the tendon in the wrist.
My surgeon clipped that tendon so there is no longer anything there to cause restriction around the nerve.

That isn't to say that you will never ever have any other problems with your hands. There are other nerves in the wrist and arm that can cause other problems like trigger finger, etc. However, if the tendon that causes restriction and the symptoms of carpal tunnel gets surgically severed, then you no longer have "carpal tunnel syndrome".

hi 3 flowers, I have had carpal tunnel so many times that now the doctor won't do any more surgeries on my hands. Now I'm not only having trouble from the carpal tunnel, but now I have spurs on both hands. He keeps putting me off. I think it's time to find a new doctor. I wish you luck in what ever you decide to do. Having such horrible hands is a nightmare!

I just had the test. Nerve Conductivity (I think). Mine is just beginning. Got the shot, but it didn't do anything. My fingertips are tingling and I can't feel too much with them. Dr says when they "really" start to bother me to come back! :-(

I had my carpul tunnel surgery in 1988. Sadly enough I didn't get the surgery for almost a year as all the docs; orthopedic, hand and thorasic did everything before the surgery. I did exercises, anti-inflammatory drugs, splint and relaxation exercises. Had the surgery, did all the rehab exercises and love my hand. Initially both wrists hurt but after I started the exercises my right hand got better. Thorasic doc said sympathy pain happens alot. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

My husband has been a pipefitter for 25 years. He had his left carpel tunnel operated on in March and the right in April. The doctor told us the right was worse then the left. After both surgeries my husband told me he had instant relief. He said he wishes he had not waited so long.

3Flowers - do the nerve study. It is worth the hour of your time. I had the suregery on both hands at the same time a little over a year ago and only regretted no having it done sooner. An Orthopaedic Specialist is the best in determining if you need the surgical procedure and the nerve study is the most definative way to diagnos the nerve compression. In my case, the doctor said that I was fortunate not to have permanent damage since I waited so long. Sometimes the tingling and numb feeling won't go away if you wait too long. I can honestly say it is now a pleasure to hand sew, knit, crochet or even write a letter and the scars from mid-palm to 1/2 inch on the wrist are barely visible.

I had the surgery & I am glad I did ... I went to a plastic surgeon they seems to do a wonderful job no scars , no pain, I had both hands done best thing I ever did with as much sewing, quilting & embroidery work that I do. Just remember to do the exsercise the dr. tells you to do even if you fell better. Happy quilting
