you can always put a small band around each block with one of the greens to make it the 12 1/2.

Checking the instructions you used, they recommend a true 1/4" seam allowance. You really need to use a scant quarter inch because the fold of the fabric, and the thread take up just a tiny bit of fabric. Check the finished size of your center squares, each should measure 3" square. The center 4-patch unit should measure 6" square. If they don't that will help you see how the seam allowance may be affecting the size of your blocks. You don't think that a couple of threads width in the seam allowance might make such a huge difference. <G>

Love your block and the colours. I always cut my squares about 1/16" bigger to allow for the seam and stitching and measure after cutting. I also have started using Best Press' spray starch and it does make a big difference.

My blocks almost always come out 12 1/4? Not sure why but they are all the same so I don't worry about it.
