I love your color selection, one of my projects on my long list of quilts to make is a red/white/black Hunter Star.

After 2 weeks of the material for Attic Windows sitting on my sewing chair, I have finally made it. Kind of wonky and might do over later if I can't square it up. Also today made Autumn Tints. Trying out new printer and scanned the blocks but don't know how to make the picture smaller. I guess I could just read the instructions (the destructions as my son used to call them when he was little) but that would be too easy. ;-)

I don't know if you realize it but your top right block looks like a swastika. Hate to bum your trip but it hit me and I don't know if after you sew the other blocks together, it will change the design. Just thought I'd let you know. You know, I feel bad sending you this but I think you should know. Please don't be offended. I send this in love.

This comment about the block looking like a swastika has been made previously about this FW block on this board and I feel to comment.

Respectfully, the shape of a swastika is different, being joined in the center. Also the swastika is just a shape, around long before Hitler adopted it. It has been around since the Neolithic period.

The swastika is a shape from sanskrit meaning lucky or good fortune.

I am totally repulsed by the Nazi party, its beliefs and actions. Unfortunately they chose a shape that we now all associate with their barbaric cruelty.

Let me just say that there are many shapes used for many ideologies, i.e. Russian's sickle, Christianity cross, Jewish star, etc. How people feel about using those symbols in their lives varies.

Again, let me repeat. The shape in Basket Weave is NOT a swastika. It is more like rail fence.

If it offends you, then don't make the block. I feel differently because it's NOT the swastika shape. I don't think we should be putting political ideologies and our feelings about them (bad or good) on other people's work.

Associate it with Buddhism or a nice Navajo blanket. Just another sun symbol or a cross, if you like.

Had a prof who loved to ramble on about how all cultures are fascist because we worship sun gods and lust after sexy women. Whatever floats your boat, I'd say to him. It's just a quilt block.

We could all make a Miep Gies block in atonement.

If you start here, it explains and gives you the links for any information you will need. Lots of reading, but really good information. Lots of fun even if I just started cutting Block #3 today!!

The patterns are found in the book, The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird.
