Sue, I am so not a gourmet! I actually just used a cake mix (or any recipe) and baked them like cupcakes in the tiny little canning jars (sometimes I use cupcake liners - they look very festive through the quilted glass jars with coordinating fabric on top!). I did worry about whether the glass jars would crack, so I baked them on a jelly roll pan with just a little water in it (about 1/2") - I figured if custard cups could take it, the canning jars could too.

I did google 'cake baked in a mason jar' - haven't finished reading it all yet! But got a couple of good links for you -

I use them for 'favors' - make King cakes for our Mardi Gras party, this year I think I'll make fruit cake - because for most of us, that's more than enough!, we've used them at bridal and baby showers, just whatever. They're fun and easy.
Thanks will look into that...hoping many of the quilt gals in my library group will make things like this to donate to the library food fair....will pass this info along

How about pillow cases made with some of the new fabric out now with cute girls. Just a suggestion.

Just saw cupcake in a jar where you actually make the cupcakes, cool and then put into a jar. Add frosting and then cover.

I think these would be fun to make and receive as a gift! I wish the gophers hadn't eaten all my rosebushes :(

Rose Beads

1 1/2 Cups fresh rose petals

Put rose petals through a food grinder or food processor. Moisten with a small amount of water; mix thoroughly. Pinch off small wads of dough. Roll to form beads. Pierce bead with large needle, set aside to dry. When almost dry, remove needles and string onto heavy thread. Use food coloring to tint. Will retain fragrance. Hang in closets or put into drawers.

I checked at Walmart yesterday for the clear vinyl, but they didn't have it. Just a thought. Would fabric backed vinyl work? (As in a vinyl tablecloth)

The more I look at all of these gift giving recipes, the better they sound. Fun to give and receive gifts like this

Look in Walmart in the school supply section. I bought clear "pencil bags" for 10 cents each (on clearance last week). I will cut them apart for the clear vinyl pieces.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of that.
