I sew on my dining room table. I try to keep clutter down to a minimum by only working on one or two items at a time and stashing extras under beds or in boxes. I set up the iron in the kitchen and take it down when I'm done. It's the only way to keep the mess under control.

I took my sewing room from my family room and put it into a smaller spare bedroom. I can shut the door and don't have to move anything. I love it!

I'm in the basement too! Just retired and built our dream house in the mountains of Eastern Oregon. SO....the daylight basement was designed around my quilting needs - 25' x26'. I think my hubby was tired of the projects all over the house for the last 30 yrs.

I have a longarm on a 12 ft. frame so that took up most of the space. Since we needed such a big mechanical room I got a separate room for my fabric. Talk about heaven 8' x 12' with scads of shelves. Cutting table is 4 lower cabinets with a cork counter with a big cutting mat and ironing station at the end. Sewing machine is under the window for light and close to the ironing station/cutting table. Little parlor stove in the corner with a comfy rocker and Ott light for hand work.

This is really a dream come true.

My husband remodeled two stalls of our four car garage into a sewing room for me, including heat and air. However, now since I am in the process of selling off most of my stash, I will probably be moving into my son's old room. Will miss the large space.

My grand plan was to use the big bedroom upstairs as my sewing 'studio.' That hasn't happened. In the meantime, I sew at my dining room table - in an open concept LR DR main floor, so yes , you see everything when you come in the door.
We just push things aside to eat.
I also have reclaimed half of the basement for my quilting frame, since I have it set up at the 10' size. I had to evict my son's toys from half the basement.
It works.

Absolutely a dream come true... PLEASE take a few photos and post them, maybe there is hope for the rest of us to design our perfect sewing places. I know I'd love to see the photos.

Why are you selling off? And again, I'd love to see photos of the garage change, as this is still a hope on my part, I'm always interested in seeing ideas..don't hurt to dream (I drool :roll: )

I sew in the sunroom, it is wonderful because of the natural light, three of the four walls are windows, and the view is great also the front window over looks the lake and the side windows over look the bush.

My sewing heaven in down in the basement. I have one room that does double purpose with sewing/quilting and scrapbooking. And the mess is out of site from upstairs, I just close the door.
