I have taken over both of my kids' former bedrooms when they grew up and moved out. My son's room is my "sewing room" where my machines, stash, tools, etc. are housed.

My daughter's former room is my "quilting room" where I keep my frame for hand quilting.

Both rooms are about 11.5'X 11.5', so neither are very big rooms.

Here are links to pictures of the rooms.

After our kids moved out, I took over my oldest son's room that was 9' X 15'. It also has a 5' X 8' walk-in closet. A couple of years later, I bought my Voyager/10' Hinterberg frame. Since it took up most of the bedroom, I moved my sewing stuff into the closet. It's really pretty neat! Then I bought one of those fold-out cutting tables....that is now in the office we made out of one of the other bedrooms.

Oh, this sounds so cute, please share a photo of the building. My husband gets to build his shop next spring, wonder how far I could get talking him into a sewing studio on his second floor? Nice idea, at least it's sunshine and he don't have to give in converting the garage. Like this idea.

My smallest bedroom is my sewing room,It's nice to have a desinated room for sewing but it also have a futon for the grandkids and it ends up being my junk room when I don't know where to put things and it's only 10x10 so it gets pretty crowded and I have to clean it out to sew.

We don't have a spare bedroom, so I sew in what is a utility room. The only utility in there is a water heater in one corner by the door. It's small.....but DH bought cheap cabinets from the area where they sell bits & pieces :-) He also made counters & I use a big desk for sewing on.A tall open bookcase holds fabric....most of it. I do cutting at the kitchen table. That gives me plenty of room to spread out.My room isn't fancy, but it's mine with a door I can close.

I was lucky enough to be able to transform our 2nd bedroom into my own place.
