What would I cover it with? A very nice centerpiece maybe. But if I had wanted a plastic tabletopper I would have sliced up shopping bags and gone to work.

Maybe she was of the generation that "had nothing", the great depression left a lot of scars. If you had something nice, you kept it nice. My Mother was of that generation and I was raised with that mentality, it's a hard mold to break! LOL
But I'm trying!

I thought quilts, tabletoppers etc. were made to be used not placticized!! I will put the Salsa next to the ketchup and mustard club. Geeze Louise cover for a table topper what's next!!! Let's start a JUST SAY NO TO VINYL covers on our stuff use them for what they are meant to be used for and give our money to the Shout it Out people if something should spill on it.

When DH and I were newly married, I cross-stitched a tablecloth for my MIL, who I dearly loved. According to her, it wasn't Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas if she didn't use that tablecloth (did I mention how much my MIL loved me back?). And the next day, it got thrown in the washing machine so it would be ready for the next holiday. By the time she moved in with my SIL and gave the tablecloth back to me, it had been used for at least 30 years. And yes, it had a few gravy, cranberry, and who knows what stains on it, but when I put that tablecloth on my holiday table, I can remember my in-laws and the laughter and love that they gave to all of us.

Forget about the quilt police. Use it, love it and share it!

OMG - lol, when I first read it I thought you wrote Shizu (dog) and wondered why anyone would allow a dog on a table - even with a placemat. Thanks for the laugh.

eewwww how old was this police woman? Vinyl or laminate? Yuck, sounds like something an old lady would do like my grandma 40 yrs ago.

ohoh I didn't read all the responses, so I hope not to offend anyone that puts vinyl on their table runners etc!

just saying

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA
