When our daughter left for college, I made her a pillow made from one of her dad's shirts. It was a big hit. It was like these at this link:

I was recently to a quilt show where a woman had made a memorial quilt from her Grandfathers shirts. It had various panels, for example a school house, a tractor, a church - each representing a stage of his life while growing up in our rural farming community. Each panel was sashed with strips made from his shirts. I nearly wept while I read the card that was attached to the quilt. It was very touching.

I think making pillows or pillow cases is the best way to go. Laying your head on a pillow/case that is made from a loved one's clothing is like putting your head on their shoulder. I made a few things from my father's shirts after he passed ---- everyone's favorite items were the pillows.

If you want something quick and you're not thinking of doing quilts or a quilted project, I have a Christmas ornament that is simple and really special that uses strips from three shirts! PM me, and I will give you the directions.

Recently I made a baby quilt from my deceased father's shirts. My nephew was almost in tears because he loved his grandfather very much and named the baby after him. I used two other fabrics for borders and large squares between the ninepatch squares from the shirts to make it look more organized. It was simple but very attractive. I saved fabric for the next baby in the family due in a few months. The fabric goes farther if you incorporate other fabric too. I explained to them that the nine patches were the shirt fabric. The quilt doesn't have to be exclusively form the shirts to be special. I loved doing it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I used a lot of starch to make it easier to piece.
