I use one to wind several bobbins for my babylock which is the machine that I piece quilts and machine quilt. The bobbins for my Viking do not fit it. So I use that maching for heming and small projects where I am not sewing alot of pieces. It is a time saver and it comes in handy when you have deadlines to meet.

I love my sidewinder. Don't know how I got along without it.
A very good investment.

I have one but it doesn't fill the bobbins to capacity. I still use it once in a while.

Question? What is the advantage of the winder vs using your machine. I like to use my machine because it forces me to rethread my machine and I think that is always a good idea.

I had one and loved it let my mom use and shortly discovered that I needed it so I took my JoAnns coupon and bought a new one I use it mostly for sewing and when I need those peskey bobbins for free standing lace as well as making the purses from MollyMine,it saves tons of time!Defintally ask Santa and get him/her a coupon.LOL.

I had one of the first side winders and it didn't work on the longarm bobbins so I gave it away. I didn't think about using it for my viking but sounds like it wouldn't have worked. Why would you rethread your machine to wind a bobbin? Oh, I guess there are machines that you have to, but mine you don't.

I use the larger spools of thread directly from the stand-up thread-spool holder on the machine, hook the thread under the loop on the side-swinder - and spin away. THUS, I CAN USE ANY SIZED SPOOL TO LOAD THE BOBBINS.

I LOVE MINE !!! :) :) :)

MyReda, when I purchased my machine it came with the plastic bobbins that are universal. I than purchased more bobbins (which are also plastic) from Walmart and they work fine. The side winder bobbin machine that I'm looking at is at Walmart, but I also have a 40% off all items at Joann's. What to do????
