Check out Baby Pinwheels on the moda bakeshop........http://www.modabakeshop.com It is similar and you can do it. Just type in Baby Pinwheels in the search when you get there.

I love the 3-D pinwheels. I found them easy to do and they add such a different feature. I love the way you put the quilt together and the colors. Great job.

Beautful. Would love to learn the technique of the folded patch. Never would of thought it possible to use eyelet.

I wparred this gift prior to taking a pic of it quilted. The couple I made it for was kind enough to take a couple pics to send to me. Here it is quilted.

That is really pretty. I have just seen the tutorial for the 3D pinwheels. Perhaps after Christmas I will have a go at making them.
