My mother has a cousin named Jerri. She married a man named Carroll. Needless to say anyone who doesn't know them think Jerry (man) and Carol (woman) if you just say their names.

My little sister was born on Halloween and her name is Hallo Jean. She married about 40 yrs ago and became "Hallo Jean Schroerlucke (pronounced Shore-R-lucky) When they call to order food to go or make a reservation, they use our maiden name of "Stout"....wander why?

Our grandfather's name was "Samuel Sam"

As a teacher, I came across lots of "unusual" names, but the names that come to mind right now are the family of seven girls whose names were Patience, Pleasure,Passion Precious, ...and I can't remember the others now but they were all given "P" words for names.

My DH was given an very unusual name (and he was a Jr. named after his father). Still today, when he is introduced, someone will always ask, "and what is your real name?" or "Is that a nickname?" And his family members don't even use his given name; they call him by his initials. UGGH! I've got it easy, I call him Honey and the kids call him Dad. The grandkids and the greatgrands call him Toto (yes, as in the Wizard of Oz) because it is part of his name. No, I won't reveal his name.

Many years ao I cared for a woman in the hospital. Her name was California Tennessee Joyce. I asked her why her mom named her that. She said that she named herself.

Also took care of a lady in hospital named Walter.

Another lady told me that she had a baby brother that they didn't expect to live so they didn't name him. When he learned to talk he said "Me, Pony." So that is what they called him.

My husband couldn't say Grandpa, so it ended up being Popeye and that is what everone started calling him. When my kids were in school they would talk about Popeye and all the kids thought they meant the Popeye in the comics.
