Have finished a queen sized hand pieced top, ready to do binding on a small throw, made varying amounts of progress on several others and finished the 'worst' one completely. So it at least got me moving on them, even if they aren't all finished yet. And I have finished several 'new' projects too.

The green had a lot of blue and the red was way to the orange side. I finally gave up and just made a wall hanging that I liked with Christmas fabrics I liked.

Right now I am just starting a new challenge called the Paint Can Challenge. We each got a 10" square of focus fabric (it has several sizes of buttons printed on it, colors are burgundy, brown, green & blue.) We also had to draw a paint chip out of the paint can, and none of the paint chip colors matched the colors in the focus fabric. I drew a light yellow called Maize. Other colors were orange, red, purple, etc. The assignment is to use at least 6" of the focus fabric (can be cut into smaller pieces), and at least 6" of the color from the paint chip. No limit on the other colors you can use. It has to be at least 24" by 24" finished. I feel blessed to have drawn the light yellow and not the purple! LOL. I'm thinking of using the light yellow for a sunburst in the center of the piece, with brown background, and then the button print for cornerstones in the outer border, which may be blue. . . I'll post a photo when I get it done.

My quilt guild has challenges every year and I always enter. The members pick the winner not knowing who has done each quilt. I've won a few times but not consistently. I also do the quilt show challenges at two places other than where I live. Have also been lucky enough to sometimes win at those places too. By win I mean any recognition including honorable mention, not necessarily first place.:) Winning also means how you best followed the challenge requirements. I like being pushed to "think outside the box" even though the quilts I like most to make are the old fashioned type patterns or scrappy ones. Go figure, must be a flaw in there somewhere.

I've only participated in 2 challenges.
#1 - Ugly Scrap Challenge
The only person that had to make something was the person with the ugliest fabric. This was a real hoot! Norbana won, and made an absolutely goregous quilt. If you missed it, the next one will start in January 2011.
#2 - 9 Patch Project
This challenge was nice and quick. I believe we had to use fabric from our scrap pile and make a 9 Patch every week for 6-8 weeks. Didn't turn out as pretty as I had imagined. :shock:
My skills aren't quite up to par, so I think I'll just lay low for a while.
