Is it possible it was the wind blowing something against the house? I have a large back porch with several things on the wall of the house and the wind is always knocking on my house. Sure sounds like someone knocking. You need a cat or dog. Our cat perks his head up when he hears something strange. Makes me go look. Turn outdoor lights on and leave them on!
