OBW stands for One Block Wonder from the books of the same name by Maxine Rosenthal. They are made by layering 6 layers of the same part of the pattern and then cutting 60 degree triangles to make a hexagon. Cutebuns did a great tutorial here, which is how I made my first one. I now have book 2 (One block wonders encore) and the latest in the series (One block wonder cubed) which goes more into the 3d cubes.
These are the tutorials Cutebuns did, I hope they help

I really like the separation you did with the black. I have just started my first OBW and have sewn the top together. It is way too busy for me. Your idea might be just what I need. I'm going to hate ripping out the seams, but you have inspired me to do something with the top and not have another UFQ. (unfinished Quilt) I'm not sure what UFO stands for, but reading between the lines, it must stand for something like that. Thanks for sharing your idea!

I'd love to know how to do that! It's really beautiful with the black background.

Gosh, that original fabric is beaut. I'm not sure I could have cut into it. Beaut. quilt though.
