Keep reading through the thread. This thread is almost a complete tutorial, in my humble estimation <g> ... go back and read all the pages - - you will be an expert, and I promise you - - it will not be a waste of your time, though there were a lot of kudos and thank yous spread throughout <wave>

I live in Hart County, KY and we have 58 (and more to come) barn quilts all over our county. We have begun a quilt trail for visitors so that not only can they see wonderful quilt patterns hanging on barns, houses and fences they can also tour our great county. Our quilts are made on 4 sheets of metal, hand-painted by some wonderful local artists. I will be glad to send you more information if you are interested.

Yes I make them as well. I made four and sent them to WI this summer to my sisters and cousin. They loved them. I also make them for our small cabin deveopement. When someone moves in I made a new one for the new member. Which reminds me to get on the stick and get going on the latest one. I think it is lots of fun.

A barn quilt was originally painted right on the barns around the areas. Now the quilt guilds are making them on outdoor plywood and selling them to make extra money for different things. I make mine 3 x 3 and they get hung on our cabins in our little mountain development. Everyone loves them. I try and fit the quilt block to he people that live there.

I have made a small 'quilt' for next to my back door, it's 24x30 and resembles a sampler quilt, with our name across the bottom.. we have a 40" cut a primed for one large block for our deck. I hope to get it finished before too long. they are fun to make and people get a kick out of seeing them.

This is the closest I've come to a barn quilt so far. Most people don't believe it is painted and have to touch it to make sure.

Very nice. I can understand why they find it hard to believe.

No, but if I had a barn I would... I love the idea of barn quilts and think they are so neat. When I travel I always look for them...
