B or D works for me. There should be some sort of psychological reason we pick certain one. I think B looks very organized. A just makes me think of Pac man and C makes me think of a question mark. I know, just call me strange.

I had exactly the same thought! I really like the second layout the best, there is a nice symmetry to that look.

The second one makes a really pretty quilt. I did one like that . It looks like ropes going on the diagonal.
My "ropes" are all different colors on an off white background as I wanted to use up some scraps.
I would show you a picture of it but I don't know how to use my camera and cannot ask anybody to help me out.
