I have 3 jelly rolls, not yet used. Have used charm packs and Keepsake medleys, FQ packs. Can any ol' jelly roll be used for a log cabin? Or should it be high contrast. Must've been sale items, or I wouldn't have bought them. But I HATE cutting. Wish I could hire that chore out. But I'll hand quilt and hand bind all day long.

YOu and I should live next to each other then...I LOVE to pick the fabrics, wash them, iron them, cut them out, piece them into a quilt and then I AM DONE...I hire the quilting and binding out! I could Iron, Cut and SEw all day....

Actually, the most versatile is the layer cake (10" squares). You can get the following from a 10" square:

10" square (duh) or
4 charms (5" squares) or
4 strips 2-1/2" x 10" (that's almost a jelly roll)

I rarely buy anything but yardage and I cut fabric for about 20 senior citizens in my MILs quilt group...I have purchased two jelly rolls only because they were on sale for 5 bucks at a closeout sale...

I'm trying to cut back on buying those types of precuts. Just because I have so many. I've been more attracted to fat quarter bundles lately.

Sorry, I'm no help. I like all three. I usually buy a couple packs of charm squares and a jelly roll. I guess it all depends on what you want them for. My grandgirls love the precuts. And it is fun to watch them do things with them. I am newly in love with the twisters and the layer cake.

If any of you live near a Tuesday Morning store, they sometimes have jellyrolls, fat quarters, etc. I've also been able to pick up rulers, pins, needles, bobbins, etc for really good prices. Was able to halp set up a newly quilting friend with most of what she needed out of my "I've got to buy this, it's so CHEAP stash".

I have never used any of them either as I find they are too limiting in color choices. I usually buy 1/2 to 1 yd cuts (or more if I can). Any less than that I feel like I don't have enough of the fabric. If it's a fabric I have run out of that I really like then it's pretty hard to find and frustrating for me when I don't have enough. When it comes time for a new project, I can have fun playing with my stash and finding treasures that I have picked up at different fabric stores.

I like the jelly rolls for the convenience and variety of strips, however price is often beyond what I'm willing to pay.

Have not yet used the charm paks I received as gifts, mainly because I haven't 'gotten to' figuring out what I want to make with them.

Typically I do buy at least a yard of any fabric I'm purchasing, so the smaller cuts are less likely to be in my basket.

If the 20 piece jellies were of the same fabrics as the 40, that would be a great idea. Same with the charms.
