I love scrappy quilts and yes I would add a 1930's fabric border and do the back in a complimentry color..... cotton is the only batting ..... I have quilts from my great grandmother, grandmother, and my mom .... then I have a quilt that my dads mom made me the year I was born .... I love these quilts and will cherish being the keeper of the quilts.... I will post pics this week .....

What a beautiful work of art. Thank you for sharing it with us. Backing with muslin would look nice. I am making a Puff Q uilt. And was trying to figure what to use as a backing. I will now usemuslin. Thank You, Norma

    It is lovely.
Do not wash it. Use a cotton batting like Warm & Natural or Warm & White, and a cotton or muslin backing. After it is done, wash it if you feel you must. Do not dry clean.

It's a lovely quilt that just cries out to be finished. I don't think I would dare wash it until it was stabilised ie finished and I agree with others to stay with cotton both wadding and backing. I wouldn't put a border on it either - it looks a complete top to me. I hope you enjoy preserving this top and look forward to seeing the final pictures.

Doesn't seem to need a border, I might use a quality white muslin backing it stands on it's own beauty. Good luck with work of love!

I love this quilt, it is so beautiful and calming to look at. I think I would add a sage green or pale blue boarder. I can't wait to see the finished project! :)

I am not a "professional" quilter, but I would finish it with a muslin back, a warm & natural batt and bind it with the muslin. I love the quilt - you are very fortunate to have it. What a keepsake and something to hand down for generations.

Ditto, but I would probably finish it first before washing
