if you like it, that's what matters.

My "decor" in the house is early attic, late basement. Most of the stuff we have has been thrifted, garage saled, given, purchased on the cheap or made.

To heck with "rules"

I hope if there is a rule I believe most of us would probably not be in the winning column. I believe if I like it then it going to be used in my home.

Life is too short to colour co-ordinate everything. heck, clashing colours work too. Your SIL is lady lacking in tact and taste! LOL

I don't have that problem.....anything goes with "early attic" and "late basement" (LOL).

When I was paper piecing a gorgeous green and blue bed scarf for my bed, a friend reminded me that I did not have any of those colors in my bedroom. I told her I would have them, as soon as I finished the bed scarf!

Amen!! Almost everything I have is "of a different color". In theory, blue is the main color in my house. BUT on the walls right now there is: a paper-pieced eagle (patriotic colors), a wall quilt that is green and white, a framed fillet crochet piece that is ecru on blue. On the small table under the wall quilt is a red and pink valentine table topper. Oh, no! No yellow or orange, I better work on that.

Make what you want, in the colors that make you happiest, and don't worry whether it matches anything.
