I use Freecycle to give things away. I answer posts if I have the wanted things. I have a gate a small distance from the house and that's where I leave the items. What gets me is the people that don't bother with a thank you. One lady wanted quilts for the hospice. I gave her five tops and change the pickup day more times than I can remember. Well I guess she picked them up as she never bother to let me know. I have gotten a few things from Freecyle too. The first thing I do is send an email thanking them, also to let them know the right person picked up. Just venting. Freecyle is a good thing and I'll keep giving even if no one says thank you.

I LOVE IT! and I am glad to see Freecycle getting some good marks among those who want to help save out planet.

I want to insert something here....to see just how many notice and can give an answer....

What is the BEST way to recycle used rotary cutter blades?
As we have all read and heard, metal items should not be sent to the landfill, and when we toss anything metal in our garbage can, we have violated the trust given to us, to help preserve this planet for future generations.

Let's hear it.....for those sweet little metal blades!

Good question June. I don't discard them yet, have been saving them for????
Maybe this would be a good thread to start on this board. What to do with "dead" blades.

Someone had already mentioned that LPSharp (I think that is the name) would recycle them and give you credit for them when you bought new blades. However, other places charge less than he does for the blades, and of course Harbor Freight beats them all. Has anyone got them on sale recently? I also saw that on QB recently.

I personally have a lot of them, some sent to me by other people who thought I was sending them to LPSharp....but no longer do that. Perhaps I should phone one of the scrap metal places to see if they will take them. I am sure they are not worth selling as scrap, but a donation would be better than putting them in the landfill.

I've given lots of stuff away on Freecycle. I've met people in a grocery store parking lot, but usually just it in on my front porch behind a column so that it isn't seen from the street. Surprising what people will pick up. Hubby has wanted to trash stuff and I say, wait, let me offer it on freecycle first and he is amazed that people want what he was going to throw away.

http://www.freecycle.org/

I've not received much cuz people usually see and reply to the Offers before I do, tho I did receive 2 large trash bags full of great fabric about 3 years ago.

I've seen working sewing machines offered quite often, quilt supplies, fabrics etc. You can always post something that you want, but you have to have posted Offers, 2 times first after joining, I think.

June I don't discard my old rotary blades either ... I use them to cut paper or give them to my dd for use in paper cutting for scrap booking etc.

so far none have gotten so terribly dull that they won't work on paper or other non-fabric things.

Here by law we recycle almost everything. Blades can't go in regular recycling or garbage but at our house we have a sharps container...our daughter has MS and takes daily injections and our grandson, Type I diabetes, so blades go in there. The shapes containers can be taken to a hospital, pharmacy or Hazardous waste dropoff at the landfill.

I do my own "freecycle". Anything that is worthy of some use but not by me or my husband gets put at the curb in front of our house. You just cannot believe what people will pick up for free. Less trouble than a yard sale. Most items never last more than an hour.
